Introducing…Atelier Lumina Obscura
The first half of this year has been quite tough and I was seeking a way to distract myself, something to work towards, some kind of a creative outlet that maybe could lead to something more.
For the past 2 months I have been occupied with building, testing, and perfecting the art of the street box camera. I have always wanted to do large format photography but the idea of shooting on sheet film and transporting it to develop in a makeshift darkroom felt cumbersome and too huge of a commitment. Then I found Instant Box Camera. It combines everything I was looking for: large format photography, a new creative challenge, a therapeutic distraction, and an art form that is touchable and personal.
So let me introduce you to Atelier Lumina Obscura—my new creative endeavor. I am not sure yet in what shape or form it will take but I want to be able to participate more in Bangkok photography scene. I want to be more than just an observer but a purveyor. I plan to do pop-ups around town so I can introduce everyone to this incredible 100-plus year old analog and tangible form of art in the world that is becoming increasingly artificially generated.
Through many trials and errors with friends, colleagues, and my own mother, I think I am ready to take this on the road. Where and when? Not sure yet. So watch this space.
