Wat Pho at Night

Wow I haven’t been on here for ages I don’t even know if anyone is reading this. If you are then hello and welcome (back).

I’ve been feeling a bit melancholic lately due to the fact that I have not travelled outside the country in 10 months. My photography is my travel and no travel, means nothing to photograph. I feel like as a local, Bangkok has been photographed to death. There are just no new angles or viewpoints that I can portray through my photographs that I, and countless other photographers, haven’t already done so.

Then an opportunity arose that let me take photos of one of Bangkok’s iconic sites in a new light—or lack thereof. I was picked to participate in The Cloud’s Overnight at the Museum Siam event where participants could explore the museum and the area, which included the famous Wat Pho, at night. I was a wuss and didn’t stay up until 8am like the rest of the group and just crashed at a nearby hostel instead, but I managed to get some beautiful shots of Wat Pho all lit up and void of Chinese tourists (it’s was a novel idea back in November to not see Chinese tourists in Bangkok. Now it’s the new normal.)
